As I peer out of my window into the snow that recently dumped on us here in northern Minnesota, accompanied by temps in the teens...it's time again for my least favorite holiday-Thanksgiving. I'll be working, as I've done for countless years, as this holiday marks the anniversary of my father's death.
Thanksgiving is a family holiday, and I don't have one...with the exception of an alcoholic/addict sister who I didn't grow up with. Hell, I don't even know where she is, as she's a transient I only hear from when she's desperate for cash. I let her live with us for awhile, but that was short lived after the wife and I tried Al-Anon, and being supportive of her attempt(s) at AA, which never lasted long. She was also addicted to pain meds after the same exact back surgery I had. If it would make her forget, she'd take/drink it.
So I send the wife to her parents back home, and I treat Thanksgiving as any other work day, except for all the overtime money I get from working the two days everyone else gets off-double time and a half - woohoo!
It's not always been me alone, sitting and staring out the window or working. My FWB back home was a loner as well, and for years while my wife was away visiting family and her friend's son was with his dad, she and I would deliver meals to those less fortunate, then shared a bottle of wine and have sex all afternoon. For those times, I was thankful.
But now, I live 900+ miles away, and she stopped writing back - even on her birthday after I sent a card and a gift, so I just figured there's a new guy and that I've faded from memory. I'm sure I'll hear from her again after he moves on, but I'll have to do the "new phone, who dis?" thing because I've deleted not only her, but everyone who can't be bothered with checking on me, or replying when I write to check up on them. In fact, the only contacts in my phone now are the wife , my attorney, financial advisor and work. I've deleted all of my social media accounts and can honestly say that I know the freedom of not being anchored to my phone. It's basically just a the camera I have on hand...when I remember to take it.
Sorry for this post being such a downer, but don't let it be. I've had my fun over the years, and I'm thankful for the memories. I just don't need to sit around awkwardly with extended family eating dried out turkey listening to their memories.

Being in the Land of the Rising Sun, Thanksgiving is just another weekday, so I’m working.
I’m on social media but have all notifications turned off and only check them during my commute. I try to avoid feeding the algorithms. Social media is a way to show my sister that I’m alive and breathing 😂
I am not a holiday person..I cook a small meal for my austic brother.. I pretty much read or watch TV.. usually football or movie marathon. I am used to spending it alone..I actually prefer it now..I enjoy my solitude.I enjoy my own company..I would love to have a par

@SirGoingdown yes I know... going through that phrase too...so I do understand a bit.
Thanksgiving isn't celebrated here. It's the countdown to Christmas here.
